Mixed Bag of Goodies

Mixed Bag of Goodies contains texts which are just as easy-to-read as they are easy-to-use. The anthology consists of texts collected from all the previous ClassBooks anthologies and is supposed to be an easy reader. The publication aims at the highest levels in the lower secondary school and the lowest levels at upper secondary schools.

The wide range of texts provides ample material for thematic work on the texts. Try to compile texts from the 9/11-anthology and try out a theme focusing on Growing Up in which you include Iain Bank's dramatic short story "Under Ice" and E. Hemingway's "Three Shots", an excerpt from Blake Morrison's memoirs "When Did You Last See Your Father?"and the famous "Lucy" poem by W. Wordsworth.

Let the students listen to the text and encourage them to voice their spontaneous reaction to the author's message. It also makes a pleasant change just to listen to a good story without having to interpret it. Send a sound-file to the students and let them use it for a written assignment, or let them write a continuation of the text they have just heard..

There are countless possibilities for creative work and you are guided by a lot of questions made to pave your way in the analyses of the texts.

Pick and mix.
